![]() ![]() It's definitely a tough decision to make.but I'm not complaining.at least we have a couple of different choices, though I was hoping for more HDD deals than just these two leading options. I think I'll end up keeping the Seagate even just purely on the price alone (I got two at the CC price). This Seagate 14TB is $16.43/TB if you had gotten the Canada Computers deal. Speculatively more reliable due to anecdotal experience. Only the SAS version (with two LUNs) shows up as 2 drives the SATA Mach.2 shows up as 1 drive in any OS (shucked or via USB).Īnd correct (re: sound and power draw) the 2X14s (anecdotally, as I can't find it now) seem to be much quieter, but uses more power than the single actuator Seagate counterparts (which are typically more than NAS/5400rpm drives like the WD REDs). What about connecting to Linux via USB 3, does it show up as single 14TB or 2x7 TB and how is the performance via USB? I've seen the drive could show up as 2 7TB partitions in shucked form, which could be a problem for SnapRAID as a parity drive since SR need the parity drive to be largest size however, 2x7TB not a problem to use as data drive. So how does this drive show up in Linux OS, in both shucked and non-shucked form. Given the characteristics of this drive (high power consumption, very fast write speed), it would be a good idea to use it as a parity drive, force spindown and only use it during periodic parity sync. I'm considering waiting for real BF or boxing day for some WD drives to go on sale since I had great experience with WD Red Plus, but the price of this drive is to hard to pass.ĭazzledTap wrote: ↑My end goal is to use 3x14TB in a SnapRAID parity with 1 parity drive. Anyone with review or thoughts are greatly appreciated. My end goal is to use 3x14TB in a SnapRAID parity with 1 parity drive. I cannot find any data online about the power characteristics, it seems like dual actuators drives have higher rated power consumption but quieter than traditional Seagate drives. It appears the drive is Mach 2 drive with dual actuators, according to the manual, the idle power consumption is quite high at 7W, the spun down, idle and active power draw are higher than my current WD Red Plus 14TB, and also higher than single actuator Exos and IronWolf.
